If you work or parent part time / full time, online courses may be for you. Students in our courses find that an online course gives them the flexibility they need in their personal lives and university program schedules. Some of our students are also international students. If you have never taken an online course, you may consider beginning with a partial online course.

Kwantlen offers students a variety of ways to do their course work. While most of our courses are offered in a traditional classroom or lab setting, many are offered partially or fully online.
Partially online courses are designed to replace some classroom time. As each course has different objectives, each course instructor will design the online component in a unique way. For example, one instructor might choose to replace one two-hour block in the week with online work, and another might choose to replace several weeks of the semester, when a student would typically be in a classroom, with online work.
Research shows that partially online courses benefit students in their learning. Besides offering students increased flexibility in course work and course schedules, partially online courses help students be more prepared for in-class work and for assignments and exams.
Fully online courses are offered in many disciplines and departments. Some of the fully online courses require in-person attendance for orientations or for exams, and all develop interactivity among students and instructors in an online environment. All students can do well in a fully online course, but those who have the most success are those who are self-directed and motivated.
Students can access their partially or fully online courses anywhere there is a reliable Internet connection (DSL, Cable, or Satellite recommended--a dial-up connection is not advised).
Online courses, are listed in the current Timetable. After students have registered for a partially or fully online course, they should log onto the 
myKwantlen student portal and click on the My Courses tab to access their course sites.
Kwantlen uses Moodle, an open source learning management system, for delivering fully and partially online courses. See About Moodle for additional help and information.
Course websites are an integral part of many courses. Instructors may choose to use online tools in various ways to support face-to-face classes. If an instructor has set up a website for a course, it will be available to students from their My Courses page in myKwantlen.
ACP Directed Studies
English: Directed Studies (ACP assessment required)
Students will work on individualized, specific objectives using a variety of units taken from other ABE English courses. They will work with a professional Adult Education instructor on reading improvement, listening comprehension, spelling improvement, vocabulary development, and/or reading in content areas appropriate to the students' goals.
Math: Directed Studies (ACP assessment required)
Students will work on a variety of units taken from other ABE math courses at the Intermediate or Advanced level. The student and Adult Education instructor will draw up a list of units appropriate to the student's needs.
Science: Directed Studies (ACP assessment required)
Students will work on a variety of units taken from other ABE science courses at the Intermediate or Advanced level. The student and Adult Education instructor will draw up a list of units appropriate to the student's needs.

The Academic and Career Prep Department is a multidisciplinary department dedicated to teaching excellence. Our faculty members specialize in Adult Education as well as specific teaching disciplines. English, math and science credit courses are offered in semester based mode, flexible intake mode and online delivery. In addition to specific course content, all of our courses include critical skill building for university studies. Our classrooms use interactive and cooperative learning strategies, and our online courses create online communities with the use of Moodle learning management system.
