Capilano Blues women and Thompson Rivers University men take home the gold!

(Langley) The 2007 BCCAA Provincial Soccer Championships ended late this evening exactly how they started - in overtime. Today's competition began earlier on in the day with the bronze medal games, featuring the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Wolfpack and the Douglas Royals in the women's game followed by the Kwantlen Eagles facing the Douglas Royals in the men's game. In the women's game, no 2 ranked TRU Wolfpack women were forced to double overtime and then to penalty kicks before they defeated no 4 ranked Douglas Royals 3-2 (PK 4-3). In the men's game, the Kwantlen Eagles men celebrated a convincing 3-0 win over the Douglas Royals.

The women's and men's gold medal matches featured a series of surprise upsets. In the women's game, the third-seed Capilano Blues held the two-time CCAA national champions Langara Falcons scoreless and won with a final score of 2-0.

In the men's game, the no 1 ranked Capilano Blues took control early and scored a goal within the first minute. They continued to control the game putting another goal in net and held on to a convincing 2-1 lead for the majority of the game. The game equalizer, scored by the no 2 ranked TRU Wolfpack late in the final seconds of the second half, tied it up 2-2. The match continued on into two overtime periods before TRU secured their win in penalty kicks (4-3) to win the game 3-2.
