DEAN, FACULTY OF SCIENCE & HORTICULTURE
UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN
DEAN, FACULTY OF SCIENCE & HORTICULTURE
Kwantlen Polytechnic University
Metro Vancouver, British Columbia
Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is a regionally focused undergraduate teaching led institution. Situated within the Metro Vancouver area and with an operating budget of approximately $130 million, Kwantlen is a multi-sector university offering a wide array of undergraduate degree programs, trades and technology programs, and one and two-year certificate and diploma programs to 14,000 students on campuses in Surrey, Richmond, Langley and Cloverdale.
With the transition to a polytechnic university in October, 2008, the Division of Science, Mathematics and Applied Sciences and the School of Horticulture are in the process of constructing a series of four-year baccalaureate degrees in science & horticulture that build on existing offerings. Several new degrees have recently been approved: Bachelor of Horticulture Science, Bachelor of Applied Science in Sustainable Agriculture, Bachelor of Science in Biology, and Bachelor of Science in Health Science. These bachelor degrees will provide a solid foundation for post-graduate study in science, health science or sustainability science, but more importantly, prepare students for a career upon graduation. Kwantlen will continue to offer courses that transfer seamlessly to another university for degree completion in science or engineering, but KPU firmly believes its new degrees will offer attractive and beneficial alternatives to what students can find at the other universities.
As the new Dean, Faculty of Science & Horticulture, reporting to the Provost & Vice President Academic, you will help lead the Faculty in making the transition to offering undergraduate degrees and become a major part of Kwantlen’s future as a polytechnic university. You will encourage an interdisciplinary approach, support academic excellence, and promote originality in research, scholarship and teaching. You will build an enhanced student experience and attract and support creative faculty members.
An accomplished academic and inspiring organizational leader, you will have earned a Ph.D. in a relevant science, applied science or agricultural discipline and have a reputation for excellent scholarship and student engagement. Drawing upon past successes at the level of Dean, Associate Dean, Chair, or as Director of an Institute or Centre, you will build upon the Faculty’s ongoing success and promote the faculty both internally and externally.
To explore this outstanding leadership opportunity, please contact Craig Hemer, Barbara Quelch or Lorraine Scrimshaw in our Vancouver office at (604) 685-0261. To be considered for this position please submit your resume and related information online at www.odgersberndtson.ca/en/careers/10324
