Contacting the IET Service Desk
There are several ways to contact the Service Desk depending on your needs and the urgency of your call.
It’s Urgent!
Call us at 604-599-2116 if you are reporting a service outage or hardware failure that affects a classroom or major part of a department. These calls include classroom computers and projection systems, department printers and your own office computer if it affects your ability to do your job.
It’s Not That Urgent
Send an email to servicedesk@kwantlen.ca with the details of your request. You can also log a request through self-service by logging into http://atlas.kwantlen.ca/ietweb
Information that helps IET
In order to expedite your request in the most efficient manner, we will need some important information from you such as (not all of these apply for each request):- Your name
- Your campus
- Your room number or location
- Your Kwantlen computer ID
- The printer ID (tag on the front of the printer plus the network name)
- Moodle course and CRN
- Student number (for requests relating to students)
- A phone or cell number where you can be reached
How do I find this information?
Computer ID
- On the desktop, right-click on "My Computer"
- In the resulting menu, click on "Properties"
- In the resulting dialog box, click on the tab "Computer Name"
- Note the full computer name
- There will be an ID sticker on the front of the printer. The ID will be five characters of the form ABC12
- The network name can be found by clicking "Start / Settings / Printers and Faxes"
- The name will be in the list of printers.
- If the printer is not in the list and should be, get the name from a co-worker’s pc
How we connect to you
We often remotely connect to your computer in order to check your system settings and demonstrate how to do things. There will be one of two services for you to start on your computer depending on how we connect.
On Kwantlen campuses, we use VNC
- Click "Start / Programs / RealVNC / Run VNC Server"
- This will put a WinVNC Icon in the lower right corner area of your computer.
- Just hold the mouse steady over the icon and a number will appear for a short time. We will ask for the number to connect.
Off campus (or if VNC is not successful) we use Logmein Rescue
- Open a new window in Internet Explorer (not Firefox or Chrome, but Safari will work)
- Go to http://www.logmein123.com
- We will give you a 6-digit access code.
- Run the software two times when prompted.
