Be ahead of the game – find out what has changed at the Kwantlen Library over the past year. And there is a lot! You will be introduced to our new discovery layer Summon, our new research guides, our emerging FAQ database, as well as get a refresher on existing services. Give your students the full university experience by incorporating Library resources, instruction, and services into your courses, your course websites, and into your own research. Kwantlen Librarians will review the numerous services at your fingertips through the library including our instruction program, our reference services (including chat reference), as well as provide you with expert search tips for locating resources through our new discovery layer Summon and LibGuides. But that’s not all - then we’ll show you how to incorporate all these tools and skills into your Moodle or course web site. Students expect it. We’ll help you deliver it!
Hands on exercises are part of this course.

Facilitators: Caroline Daniels and Jan Penhorwood are both seasoned and savvy librarians from Kwantlen library. Caroline is the Systems, Web and Interlibrary Loan librarian, and Jan is a Public Service librarian. Hands on exercises are part of this course.

  • Zotero Workshop

Thursday, June 21st @ Surrey Campus, 10 am - 1 pm (in library’s 2nd floor teaching lab)

Learn about an exciting new tool that streamlines one of the most frustrating and time-consuming research tasks: citation management.

Zotero is free, open-source software (very similar to EndNote or RefWorks) which enables you to easily save references and files; share lists with colleagues; integrate citations into research papers (using Word or OpenOffice); and generate bibliographies in many different formats. Your data is automatically synced so it’s always up-to-date, no matter where you are. It’s mobile-friendly as well. You can download the Zotero Firefox add-on in less than a minute; no special ‘administrator privileges’ are required.

The library is offering an introductory workshop at both the Richmond and Surrey campuses to help you get started on using Zotero. This 3-hour time investment will save you countless hours of citation frustration in the future.

Facilitators: Chris Burns and Ulrike Kestler.
Chris Burns is the Research Support & Data Services Librarian at Kwantlen. She is often asked by faculty whether Kwantlen offers EndNote or RefWorks software. Unfortunately, we don’t. She has found Zotero to be a very good substitute and it’s now a must-have tool for simplifying her work and life.

Ulrike Kestler is the Public Services Librarian responsible for Citation Style Guides and Citation Workshops at Kwantlen. She has been impressed with Zotero as a freely available tool to facilitate citation management and is looking forward to introducing this application to other Kwantlen employees. To register, email PDReg@kwantlen.ca
