Frequently Asked Questions by Research Assistants:
How are library privileges initiated for research assistants?
Your supervising faculty member or department liaison must notify Colleen van de Voort in library and inform her that a new research assistant has been hired which will initiate the process. Once the accounts have been set up, the research assistant will receive their library account information from the library, and an email from our Information, Education and Technology Department regarding their username and password. Research assistants must go to the library to get their new research assistant card (even if they have a previous student card).
How do research assistants place interlibrary loan requests?
Use your Banner ID (also called student or employee number) and whatever password you set up in the library when you received your research assistant card. Problems submitting Interlibrary loans? Contact Caroline Daniels. You can find out more general information about ILL's on the Interlibrary Loan Service web page.
How do research assistants access library subscription databases from off site?
Enter the short name ID and password that you use to login to your computer on the campus. Problems accessing databases off site? Contact Caroline Daniels.
What if I am a current student and a research assistant?
You should also obtain a research assistant card as it offers greater privileges.
What if I have an alumni card? Can it be used in place of a research assistant card?
Alumni's do not have all the privileges of a research assistant. If you want to access research databases off site, or wish to submit interlibrary loans, your alumni card will not work. To ensure you have access to the appropriate services, go to the library to get your research assistant card.
What if the library staff are unable to find a record in their system for a research assistant?
Go back to the faculty member or department liaison who hired you and ask them to contact Colleen van de Voort.
