Acclaimed jazz musician to instruct at Kwantlen Summer Jazz music camp

(LANGLEY, B.C.) Jodi Proznick, acclaimed jazz musician and early childhood music educator, will be instructing at “Kwantlen Summer Jazz ‘08”—a music camp for students 14 years and over—at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Langley Campus from Aug. 10–16, 2008.

“I will be teaching bass master classes, theory, combo and helping with big band,” said Proznick. “I am glad to contribute my knowledge in jazz music to foster and nurture future jazz talents and anyone interested in learning jazz music.”

This fun summer music experience has an "instrumental jazz focus," covering all aspects of learning about and how to play jazz music. Camp instructors, including Proznick, will help participants develop their individual talents and skills in an interactive music setting.

“We had such a great time last year at Kwantlen’s Jazz Camp with all ages playing and learning together. Through this camp, I hope to help people grow and embrace the power of music,” explained Proznick.

Proznick’s credentials as a music educator include a master’s degree in art education from Simon Fraser University, and 10 years of teaching experience. She has also given music clinics at various colleges and high schools including Grant MacEwan College, Western Michigan University, McGill University, St. Francis Xavier University, Capilano University and Brandon University. Aside from teaching, she was an adjudicator at the Envision Jazz Festival, the Nelson Jazz Festival, the Moose Jaw Optimist Festival and the Brandon Jazz Festival. In 2007, Proznick adjudicated at the Winnipeg Optimist Festival and Music Fest Canada.

A highlight for Proznick was opening for Oscar Peterson with the Oliver Gannon Quartet at the Orpheum in the summer of 2004. Also in 2004, Proznick won the Galaxie Rising Star award from the Vancouver International Jazz Festival with her own group, the Jodi Proznick Quartet. The group released its debut CD, Foundations through Cellar Live Records in October 2006, which features many of her compositions. She is a member of many critically acclaimed groups including Tilden Webb Trio, Joel Haynes Trio, Jill Townsend Big Band and Weeds/Minemoto Quartet.
