Kwantlen Accepted into Prestigious University Association

(SURREY, B.C.) Kwantlen Polytechnic University has been accepted as a member in the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC), Canada’s association of leading university and higher-education institutions.

AUCC is the voice of Canada's universities, representing 92 Canadian public and private not-for-profit universities and university-degree level colleges. Since 1911, AUCC has provided strong and effective representation for members, in Canada and abroad. Their mandate is to facilitate the development of public policy on higher education and to encourage cooperation among universities and governments, industry, communities, and institutions in other countries. AUCC provides key services to member universities in three main areas: public policy and advocacy; communications, research and information-sharing; and scholarships and international programs.

“This has been a long road for Kwantlen and we are all very proud of our AUCC membership. As a BC university, Kwantlen has provided academic and career success to over 200,000 people throughout the South Fraser region,” said David W. Atkinson, Kwantlen President & Vice-Chancellor.

Becoming a member is rigorous and member institutions have to meet several criteria including: having a senate, board and other similar governing bodies; offering a broad range of undergraduate programs in liberal arts and sciences; having a proven track record of scholarly activity and research; and offering quality assurances and processes ensuring programs, support services, libraries materials and graduate outcomes meet or exceed high levels of quality.

“Thank you to everyone at Kwantlen who worked so diligently to ensure the success of the AUCC membership application. We should all take a moment to celebrate this accomplishment,” Atkinson commented in an internal notice at Kwantlen on the membership acceptance.

Having AUCC membership offers students further confidence that they are receiving a university education that meets or exceeds the highest levels of quality, and offers a commitment to advance knowledge and scholarly activity to serve an institution’s community.
