President's Message on Haiti

It is with sadness and concern that we have received accounts of the terrible devastation and destruction that has taken place as a result of the January 12th earthquake in Haiti. It is impossible to not be moved by the tragic loss of life and property we have witnessed. As a community, Kwantlen is rich in diversity, and for those of you that may have family or friends in Haiti that have been affected by this terrible disaster we send our hope for their safety and well being. Throughout Canada, as well as the world, people have mobilized in response to this tragedy and I am heartened to see that this is echoed in the efforts of students, staff and faculty here at Kwantlen. A foundational component of Kwantlen's mission is to foster a sense of social responsibility, care and stewardship for the world and all the people in it. For those of you who are interested in how you might help in the aid and relief efforts, the Canadian government has a website which lists humanitarian organizations which they will provide matching funds for contributions received.
