Inflexible Beginners Yoga Basics

This workshop is an introduction for absolute beginners to understand the benefits of yoga including improved performance in sports or at the gym, increased flexibility and joint range of motion, improved concentration and learning efficiency. It will include a gentle practice to learn some of the foundational postures (and their alignment) often found in common yoga classes. Mats and blocks provide comfort and accessibility. Time will be allotted for group questions toward the end of the workshop. Beginners yoga can be your lead into one of our weekly yoga classes or Intro to Hatha Sun Salutations.

Intro to Hatha Sun Salutations

Sun Salutations, otherwise known as Surya Namaskara, is a common sequence of Hatha yoga asanas (body positions). The physical base of the practice links together twelve asanas in a dynamically performed series. These asanas are ordered so that they alternately stretch the spine backwards and forwards. When performed in the usual way, each asana is moved into with alternate inhalation and exhalation. This course is meant to be a complete series of movements covering all bases strength, flexibility and balance. Suitable for beginners and novices.

Conquering the Core

What is the core and how do we access it? Did you know functional movements are highly dependent on the core and lack of core development can result in a predisposition to injury and lower back pain? Learn to utilize and strengthen your powerhouse: your deep abdominal muscles, obliques and lower back. We will be using methods from both the Yoga and Pilates traditions. Suitable for all levels of ability.

Relax Into Life

Do you feel that most of your life is lived from action, or reaction? Does your life seem like a series of events that push you around? Or, are you able to skillfully choose your responses to life? This workshop is designed to restore the body, release deeply seated tensions and understand how we can support a peaceful mind and a healthy body in daily life. Accessible for all levels – please bring a large towel or blanket
