Other Aspects of the Model

Chair of Senate - The president is, by legislation, defined as the Chair of Senate.  A Vice Chair shall be elected from the membership.

Chancellor and President are voting members of all committees of Senate.  However, it is understood that they are unlikely to be able to attend most meetings.

Alternates - The use of alternates is not permissible on Senate

Roles and Responsibilities of the Faculties

A Faculty is an educational administrative division of the  University constituted by the Board as a faculty on the recommendation of the Senate (University Act 2008).

Meetings of the Faculty Councils provide a forum for Faculty-wide dissemination of information, discussion and academic decision-making related to the governance and management of the Faculty and its activities.  While respecting the authority of more senior university governance bodies and administration, each Faculty is responsible for its own planning, priority setting, development, management and ongoing review of the teaching, research and other related programs and services within the Faculty.  No recommendation on behalf of a Faculty or its departments will be made to a senior governance body without the approval of that Faculty.
