Kwantlen Library Receives Collection in Honour of Sikh Pioneer Teja Singh

Donation to Library Sikh Studies

(SURREY, B.C.) The Coast Capital Savings Library at Kwantlen Polytechnic University is the recipient of a recent gift from the BC Foundation for the Study of Sikhism.

The Foundation has recently completed a $20,000 pledge to establish a collection in honour of Teja Singh to support Sikh, Punjab and Indian Studies at Kwantlen. The collection covers topics from traditional methods of agriculture in India to current economics, art and music.

“Collections like the Teja Singh Memorial are so important as we launch new degrees, including the Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies currently under development”, said Social Sciences dean, Dr. Robert Adamoski. “This collection not only greatly enhances resources available to students in our existing Asian Studies courses, but is of great benefit to students in all areas of the university, from History to Fine Arts.”

“The Foundation created this collection in honour of Teja Singh because of his important role in the status of early Indian immigrants to Canada and the establishment of the Khalsha Diwan Society”, said Jas Sandhu from the BC Foundation for the Study of Sikhism. “One of the many contributions that Teja Singh made was cross cultural dialogue, so to us this collection can be used for students from all walks of life to learn more about our rich heritage.”

All Kwantlen Libraries are open to the public for a nominal fee; those that are faculty staff and students of most other post-secondary institutes, attend high school in the local are or are senior citizens can access the libraries services for free.
