Appliance Servicing Apprenticeship
The requirements for completing an apprenticeship as an appliance service technician is 7200 hours of on-the-job training, eight weeks of technical training in each of the first and second years and six weeks of technical training in the third year. Graduates from the appliance service technician thirty-nine week Kwantlen Polytechnic University program will acquire credit for all three levels of technical training. Candidates will write an inter-provincial examination after completing the thirty-nine week program.
After completing the appliance service technician program individuals will need to acquire employment in the field. Several employers in the lower mainland are actively involved in training apprentices. Individuals wishing to identify employers who are hiring would be able to acquire up-to-date information from their instructors or by referring to employment websites – www.workopolis.com or www.workinfonet.bc.ca Apart from the completion of the three levels of technical training individuals are expected to complete 5040 hours of on-the-job training. Refer to the Apprenticeship Training section for additional information on apprenticeship registration procedures and the responsibilities of the apprentice.
Once an individual has completed the thirty-nine week Appliance Service Technician program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, the 5040 hours of work-based training and achieved a 70% or higher on the Inter-provincial Appliance Service Technician examination under the guidelines of apprenticeship training they would receive a
