Metal Fabrication Apprenticeship
The requirements for completing an apprenticeship as a metal fabricator is 6400 hours of on-the-job training, five weeks of training in each of the four levels of technical training (Level 1, 2, 3 & 4). Metal Fabrication is a red-seal trade. Refer to www.red-seal.ca for additional information on red-seal trades.
Graduates from the metal fabrication citation ELTT twenty-three week Kwantlen Polytechnic University program will acquire credit for the first level of technical training.
After completing the metal fabrication citation ELTT program individuals will need to acquire employment in the field. Several employers in the lower mainland are actively involved in training apprentices. Individuals wishing to identify employers who are hiring would be able to acquire up-to-date information from their instructors or by referring to employment websites – www.workopolis.com or www.workinfonet.bc.ca. Once an individual has employment and is a registered metal fabrication apprentice the expectation will be to complete 6400 hours of on-the-job training as well as, return to a post-secondary institution of your choice for three additional levels of technical training. Refer to the Apprenticeship Training section for additional information on apprenticeship registration procedures and the responsibilities of the apprentice.
Once an individual has completed the four levels of technical training in the metal fabrication field, the completion of 6400 hours of on-the-job training and achieved a 70% or higher on the Inter-provincial metal fabrication examination under the guidelines of apprenticeship training they would receive a
- ITA Certificate of Qualification
- Inter-provincial Red Seal Endorsement (refer to www.red-seal.ca for information about red seal trades)
- Certificate of Apprenticeship
